Beef Protein Powder NZ
Note: This product is a hydrolysed beef-derived protein made from meaty beef bones.
The unflavoured raw material contains approximately 78–84% collagen. It is not powdered beef muscle and its amino-acid profile is not equivalent to whey.
- More than 95% protein content (unflavoured)
- Approximately 78–84% collagen (unflavoured)
- Contains all nine essential amino acids, but in different proportions from whey and meat muscle protein
- No dairy, egg, soy or gluten ingredients in the unflavoured product

What is hydrolysed beef protein?
Our beef protein is HydroBEEF manufactured from fresh, meaty beef bones that undergo mechanical and thermal processing, after which the protein is dried into a fine powder.
This results in a protein level of 95% (unflavoured), with less than 1% carbohydrate and less than 3% fat.
Because bones and their associated connective tissues are naturally rich in collagen, the finished ingredient is also collagen-rich. The manufacturer calculates its collagen content at approximately 78–84%.
This is important because “beef protein” does not mean powdered steak or isolated beef muscle. It is a beef-derived protein with an amino-acid profile dominated by glycine, proline and hydroxyproline—the amino acids commonly associated with collagen.
Is it a complete protein?
HydroBEEF contains all nine essential amino acids, including tryptophan. However, it is low in leucine, isoleucine and some other essential amino acids while being high in glycine, proline and hydroxyproline.
For this reason we do not consider this product to be nutritionally equivalent to whey, egg or pea protein when amino-acid quality for muscle development is the primary consideration.
Why choose it?
Hydrolysed beef protein may be useful for people who:
-
want a protein powder made without dairy ingredients
-
cannot or prefer not to use whey, egg or plant protein
-
want a very low-carbohydrate, low-fat powder
-
prefer a thicker shake
-
want a protein that is naturally rich in collagen-derived amino acids
-
want an unflavoured animal-derived protein for smoothies, porridge or baking.
It provides a substantial amount of protein, but has a collagen-dominant amino-acid profile.
